Police Chase Across Multiple Municipalities Ends in DWI Arrest
An Officer with the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office attempted to conduct a traffic stop for an equipment violation around 8pm last Friday, April 4th in the Town of Homer. The driver, 27 year old Gavin Dunn, of the Town of Homer, fled the scene in the vehicle after failing to comply with the officer’s orders. Unable to safely follow Dunn, the officer lost sight of the vehicle, which would later be seen in the Town of Cortlandville by Cortland City Police.
Again, Dunn refused to comply with the lawful orders, fleeing from police whilst committing several vehicle and traffic law infractions in the attempt. Pursued by officers from both the City of Cortland and the Cortland County Sheriff’s office, the chase ended after Dunn took his vehicle off the road, causing property damage. Taken into custody, Dunn was transported to Upstate Medical Center and was treated for his injuries.
He is to appear on April 28th in the Town of Cortlandville Court, and May 6th at the Town of Homer Court.
Currently, Dunn is charged with multiple misdemeanors, including Driving While Intoxicated, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in the 3rd Degree, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree, as well as numerous vehicle and traffic infractions.
