Ithaca ‘Polar Plunge’ Welcomes Special Olympics NY to Tompkins County

Tomorrow (March 23) afternoon is the big Polar Plunge event in Ithaca that officially welcomes the Special Olympics of New York into Tompkins County.

Members of state and local law enforcement will carry in the ceremonial torch and join residents, businesses and anyone brave enough to plunge into the icy waters of Cayuga Lake at Taughannock State Park, 1740 Taughannock Blvd in Trumansburg.

The event is expected to begin at 1:00 tomorrow with registration from 11-12:30.

Last year nearly 500 plungers helped raise $38,000 at the Ithaca Polar Plunge while spectators watched with excitement.

Donations are welcome and all funds raised help support the cost for athletes to participate in training and competitions.
