On Saturday’s Meet Cortland County:
Community-oriented police officer Jesse Abbott discussed the second annual “Shop with a Cop” initiative.
The event provides select area children enduring a loss or hardship with the opportunity to go on a mini-holiday shopping spree.
Each child selected is given a specific amount of money to spend at the Cortlandville Walmart alongside a city police officer.
They’re expected to buy gifts for others in their family in addition to themselves.
Abbott says even more children will be able to participate this year thanks to a $5,000 grant from Walmart.
Nominations are due no later than December 1st, 2020.
All nominees must currently be a student in the Cortland City School District.
Those can be submitted in the form of a private message to the City of Cortland Office of Community Oriented Policing Facebook page with the name, age and reason the child should be selected.
