
City fire chief previews $1M+ FEMA grant package
January 23, 2021On today’s Meet Cortland County:
Chief Wayne Friedman discussed a recent round of FEMA grants totaling more than $1M allocated to the Cortland Fire Department.
This includes reimbursements of $48k for PPE related to the COVID-19 pandemic and just over $30k for a past purchase of smoke/CO detectors.
Another $511k will be used for the regional purchase of Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) equipment — the city is host agency on this collaboration with Marathon Joint Fire District.
A more than 20 year-old High Pressure Breathing Air Compressor will be replaced with support from a $50k grant.
Finally, two 20-plus year-old pieces of equipment that function as a fire engine and aerial will be replaced ($675k).
