Phil Collins Announces New North American Tour Dates

Music News

Phil Collins is coming back for another string of North American dates, dubbed the Still Not Dead Yet, Live! tour. Collins and his band — which features longtime solo and Genesis sideman Daryl Stuermer, solo bassist Leland Sklar, and his son Nic on drums — will play a total of 15 dates, with the fall jaunt kicking off on September 23rd at Dallas’ American Airlines Center and wrapping on October 19th at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena.

Phil Collins admits that he feels invigorated having his virtuoso son joining him on tour: “And especially having Nicholas behind me on drums; because of his influences — I mean, (John) Bonham, and Chad Smith, and me — there’s a lot of balls. We have a kind of shorthand between us. And he takes notes very well, he doesn’t get offended, which is one of the things that you have to be careful of if you’re gonna have, y’know, family in the band.”

Daryl Stuermer became Phil Collins’ bandleader when he first embarked on a solo tour for his 1982 second album, Hello, I Must Be Going. Three years later, when Collins suddenly became the breakout star of 1985, he admits, it literally rocked all their worlds: “We went out on the road (for) the No Jacket Required tour. No one expected these things to sell out. First of all, no one expected No Jacket Required to be as big a record as it turned out to be — none of us. I think the fact that he was different than Genesis helped him, too. I mean, Genesis being a great group by themselves, he was still able to come out there and do it by himself; you heard his personality come through his music. I mean, that voice that he had, it feels that you know the guy. Now, I do know him, but if I didn’t know him, I would feel like I know him.”
