Person Flees Police After Crashing Car Into Police Car

On Thursday, January 12th, a Tompkins County Sheriff’s deputy was responding to an emergency call in a marked patrol car with lights and sirens when they were then struck by another vehicle.




The driver of the vehicle that hit the deputies car abandoned their car and fled the scene on foot. After a brief search conducted by Ithaca Police found the suspect after a description was provided and took him into custody.

Through the continued investigation by officers it was revealed the suspect was at fault in the accident. They were charged with Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident, Failure to Yield the Right of Way to an Emergency Vehicle, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 3rd.

Both the name of the officer and driver of the other vehicle are not being released by the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff deputy was medically evaluated and released. The investigation is ongoing.
