Pennsylvania Based Sample News Group Purchases Cortland Standard in Bankruptcy Court – Plans Return Set For May 17

The Sample News Group headquartered in State College Pennsylvania, has announced they have purchased the assets of the Cortland Standard Printing Company through bankruptcy court. The Cortland Standard closed after declaring Chapter 7 bankruptcy back in early March after over 140 years in operation. The reason for the closure was cited as rising costs, an impending tariff on newsprint, and a dropping subscription rate.

Sample News Group says they intend to bring back the paper and resume the Cortland Standards previous publication schedule of Tuesday through Saturday. The company added they look to have the first publication of the Standard’s return on Saturday, May 17th.

“We are honored to revive publication of the Cortland Standard for the community,” Said George “Scoop” Sample, owner of Sample News Group. “Cortland deserves the opportunity to stay informed and engaged through a vibrant local newspaper. We look forward to ensuring that the thriving community of Cortland does not turn into a news desert.”
