John Harrison: [00:00:00] Hello again everyone. It’s John Harrison on X 1 0 1, always classic in the studio, interviewing Paul Kozlowski of the Ake Gallery. Paul, thanks so much for joining. Thank you for having me. Oh, of course. Always happy to have you in. It’s always a, a treat. Getting to chat with you. You’ve got a really cool, gallery that’s, that’s open to submissions from the public coming up.

It’s gonna be, remastered, I believe it’s called. Correct? Yeah. We’re

Paul Kozlowski: doing a a, an art show called Remastered. And, it’s an open, if you have any artwork you want to, submit. We, we’re taking submissions until October 4th. And, the idea is, for anyone that, it’s for amateur artists and, and, and up to master forgers.

The idea of remastered is, your take on a famous piece of artwork. Like if you wanna do the Mona Lisa, you know, as a punk rocker, or, American Gothic, those guys out front with the pitchforks, you know, as aliens. Your take on a famous work of art or, an art movement like Picasso, cubism, whatever.

[00:01:00] Or, or an artist. So it’s just sort of like, we wanna see different people’s takes on. Somebody submitted a, a Starry starry night, but it’s New York City look really cool.

John Harrison: Yeah, that sounds awesome.

Paul Kozlowski: And, so we, we’ve got some great submissions. It’s, we have submissions from around the country actually.

But we wanted to get more local people involved. So, if you have, if you’re an artist and you have something you’ve painted that looks like another, work of art famous or a movement, submit it.

John Harrison: Yeah. And, there’s a, a number of categories, too, and, and Oh yeah. That’ll probably explain. Yeah.

One of the ones that I’m excited about, which is, you don’t even really need to be a particularly good artist, which I think is the category I fall under.

Paul Kozlowski: That’s, that’s me to a t. Yeah.

John Harrison: Yeah. I, I pick You’re not

Paul Kozlowski: particularly good.

John Harrison: Yeah. I pick up a pen or a pencil or, or anything, and I, I don’t know what I’m doing.

And I’ve considered, entering this, the art school dropouts. There you go. Yeah. That’s, for, purposefully bad, which is, what I’m gonna claim it is, even though I know. Yeah, sure. It’s all I can do. But [00:02:00] purposefully bad are beginner versions of famous paintings, which is something that I love doing just for fun.

I think that’s such, there you go. Cool. Yeah. And so for people listening, who, who might want to enter, I know that. The submission deadline is October 4th. What do they need to do? What do they need to know to, to enter?

Paul Kozlowski: Just go to, Ake Gallery.com, a k gallery.com, and, just click the remastered, gives you the whole description of everything, and, then you, click on, to submit local artists.

There’s a, a code that you can use if you go to our website, local 10, and, you get half off the submission fee. So it’s like just 10 bucks to submit. Oh, perfect. And, we’ve got some great. Great judges, that’ll be looking at your stuff. And, here’s some of the categories. Just look at, masterpieces reimagined, famous masterpieces with an extra helping of in inspiration.

Mashups and collisions. Combining two artworks, you know, that kind of a thing. Art school dropouts, you talked about, show offs. This is for, anybody who’s really good at painting. If you wanna show off and make everybody else look [00:03:00] bad, if that’s your thing, then you’re welcome also. Yeah, and it shows, the whole exhibition opens on, November 7th, goes to December 5th.

John Harrison: Awesome whole month to look at all the, the great submissions.

Paul Kozlowski: And we got a bunch of shows lined up. Like, in, in improv, our regular improv group, doing, art themed improvisations on opening night, we are going to have, people, bands doing covers of covers. Wow. So sort of keeping with the theme.

John Harrison: Yep. Yeah. So they’re gonna be doing, you know, a, a cover of Santa Mariel’s. Don’t let me be misunderstood, which is a cover of Exactly. That’s gonna be awesome.

Paul Kozlowski: We also have a, a story slam that the, seventh Valley, health Coalition does. Those are always amazing. Yeah. And the theme is faking it.

John Harrison: Oh yeah.

Okay. So

Paul Kozlowski: that’ll be one of the nights. It’s all, on the, that website.

John Harrison: Yeah. And that’s, remind us of the, the website for the, Ake Gallery,

Paul Kozlowski: Ake Gallery.com. Very easy to remember.

John Harrison: Yeah. A KE gallery.com. Yeah. That’s, perfect. Lot of great [00:04:00] stuff. Coming up. Now I, I noticed that there is gonna be some sort of, prize pool for submissions for Oh, yes.

For remastered,

Paul Kozlowski: Prizes will reflect the current, market for forged art.

John Harrison: And, off the top of your head, you know what the, the going rate for, for a forgery is like?

Paul Kozlowski: Well, you’ll have to accept whatever we give you or we’ll turn you into the cops. So I think that’s sort of how it works.

John Harrison: That sounds perfect. You know, it sounds like a pretty, pretty, fair trade. In other words, pennies. Pennies if not less.

Paul Kozlowski: Yes. But if you wanna impress the people around Cortland and Homer and Preble, if you want, then, I would submit.

John Harrison: Yeah, for sure. Yeah. So folks, if you wanna submit again, that’s, Ake Gallery.com, grab those pictures off your refrigerator and,

Paul Kozlowski: And just mail ’em in.

John Harrison: That would be, yep, that would be a great one. But yeah. Paul, thanks so much for, for joining me in the studio today. Thank you for having me. Always happy to have you. And, for everyone listening at home on X 1 0 1, it’s been John Harrison.
