Over $53,000 Raised From Annual St. Baldrick’s Day Fundraiser at Red Jug Pub

The final tally is in from the annual St. Baldrick’s Day fundraiser, Red Jug Pub owner Tom Terwilliger said. Terwilliger spoke with X101 News on the good news Sunday evening that the annual fundraiser to fight kids cancer had raised over $53,000; this year’s goal was $30,000.

“We exceeded [the goal] because of Cortland’s absolute support for kid’s with pediatric cancer and Cortland is one heck of a town.” Terwilliger said to X101 News.

This is the 12th year the Red Jug in Cortland has hosted St. Baldrick’s Day and the 30th event across the state they’ve done. Terwilliger has Red Jug Pub locations in Binghamton, Oneonta, and in Brockport.

“I’m honored to try and help pediatric cancer research, the local community has been absolutely impacted in a way people might now know. There [are] folk around that have had a brush with cancer and in the pediatric sense more than we would like.” -Tom Terwilliger, Red Jug Pub Owner.

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to funding childhood cancer research. It is best known for its head-shaving fundraising events, where volunteers shave their heads in solidarity with children battling cancer while raising money for research. The foundation was established in 2000 and has since become one of the largest private funders of childhood cancer research grants.

The CDC reports that each year in the United States, approximately 15,000 children and adolescents under the age of 20 are diagnosed with cancer. Cancer remains the leading cause of death by disease among children and adolescents in the U.S., resulting in the death of approximately 1,800 kids each year, according to Alex’s Lemonade Stand, Foundation for Childhood Cancer.
