With the upcoming Special Olympics New York State Games taking place in Ithaca this Saturday (June 25th) over 300 volunteers are still needed to support the over 1,100 Special Olympics athletes and coaches that compete.
Officials state the greatest need for volunteers are:
- Sports-specific duties include staging, escorting, timing, marshals, linesman
- Track & Field (Ithaca High School)–200 volunteers needed
- Basketball (Ithaca College- A&E Center)–40 volunteers needed
- Swimming (Ithaca College- A&E Center)–30 volunteers needed
No experience is needed and all volunteers will be trained on site. All volunteers must be vaccinated, 13 years and those between the ages of 13-15 must be accompanied by an adult.
Volunteers are being asked to register by the end of the day today (June 21)
