Just after 1:30 in the afternoon on Wednesday, June 12th, both Homer and Cortland Fire were dispatched to 56 North West Street (Route 281) in Homer for a possible structure fire. Dispatch reported there was an active oven fire, but the fire was reportedly contained to the oven.

Homer Police was first to arrive on scene and extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher and closed the oven to hold any possible fire. Homer Fire Deputy Chief, Doug Van Etten, told X101 News firefighters on scene checked for any possible extension of the fire.

Firefighters cleared the building of any fire extension and began to vent the home with fans. No injuries were reported during the fire.
