Yesterday, an enforcement detail took place on State Route 17 in the town of Nichols. Photos from NYSP are below.

The right lane in the eastbound direction was shut down for DOT workers to perform tree removal along the busy highway.

A total of 13 tickets were issued:

  • Speeding – 2
  • Cell phone – 3
  • No Seat belt – 2
  • Move Over Law – 1
  • Other – 5

This statewide campaign will continue throughout construction season.

During the initiative, Troopers embed themselves in work zone dressed as a DOT worker in order to monitor for vehicle and traffic violations like speeding, operating a cellphone, not wearing a seatbelt or failing to follow the “Move Over” Law.

Last year, 1,770 tickets were issued by State Police throughout New York.
