The New York State Fair opened Thursday to the largest 1st-day attendance since 2009.
Just over 62 thousand people attended the opening day of this year’s fair, up from just over 46 thousand last year.
Today will be a busy day at the fair. It’s New Americans Day, there will be a naturalization ceremony held in the Empire Room. Law enforcement officers will be recognized today as well.
Today is also Pride Day at the fair which recognizes and celebrate the LGBTQ community.
Singer-songwriter Melissa Etheridge will take the stage at 8 p.m. at Chevy Court.
At the Grandstand, comedian Jim Gaffigan will perform at 7:30 p.m.
