One Transported to Upstate After Motorcycle Crash at Intersection of Sweeney and Wolf Road on Monday

One person was transported to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse following a single motorcycle crash on Monday, June 16th. First responders were dispatched to the intersection of Sweeney and Wolf Road in Homer just before 9 in the morning.

State Police say the motorcycle operator, 54 year old Darren McCabe of Cortland, was taken by ambulance to Upstate. The cause of the crash was believed to be from McCabe attempting to avoid a turkey vulture that flew towards his motorcycle. He swerved to avoid the large bird and crashed the bike on Wolf Road.

McCabe, better known as Hal McCabe, was previously the Village of Homer Mayor from 2017 through 2024. The state of the injuries he sustained were not provided.
