One Shot By Troopers in Marathon – Person in Critical Condition

New York State Police report that in the early morning hours (March 16th) in Marathon at 2:15 am they shot a 54 year old male after he pointed a gun at them.


New York State Police at Homer were dispatched by Cortland County 911 to check the welfare of a male at 162 Tim Hill Road in Marathon.

According to the release, Troopers arrived and determined that he was suffering a mental health crisis and was in possession of a gun. While the Troopers were making contact with the man, he pointed the gun toward them. The man was shot by a Trooper and was immediately rendered medical care. No one else was injured.

The male was transported by ambulance to Wilson Hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition.

New York State Police were assisted by the Cortland County Sheriff’s Department and Marathon Ambulance.

Troopers say the investigation is on-going.
