Just after 10am on Friday, December 15th, emergency personnel responded to the intersection of Route 11 and Vormwald Road in the Town of Preble for a motor vehicle accident with injuries involving a car and a farm tractor.
Preble Fire and TLC Ambulance along with the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. Both Homer and Tully Fire were requested for mutual aid in the crash. The vehicle involved in the crash was found on its roof and the occupant still inside. Emergency personnel worked quickly to extract the driver from the flipped vehicle.
A helicopter was requested by emergency personnel due to the condition of the patient deteriorating. Mercy Flight was not able to respond due to wind conditions and Guthrie Air was then requested. Guthrie had a 35 minute estimated time of arrival. Due to the condition of the patient, they were rushed to Upstate University Hospital via ambulance, their condition is unknown at this time. The operator of the farm tractor was uninjured in the crash.
An investigation by officers from the Sheriff’s Office found that both vehicles were traveling southbound on Route 11 when the passenger car attempted to pass the farm tractor, who was turning left onto Vormwald Road. The collision with the tractor caused the vehicle to overturn.
Route 11 was closed for about three hours for further investigation into the crash. The identities of those involved were not released yet by the Sheriff’s Office until proper notifications are made. The crash remains under investigation.
