One Person Extricated From Car Following T-Bone Crash on Groton Ave
Cortland Fire says they were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Groton and Graham Ave. just after 9pm Friday night by Cortland County 9-1-1. Enroute, Cortland Fire says they were informed of injuries with one person entrapped in the vehicle. Additionally responding was Cortland Police and TLC Ambulance and University Police.
On arrival, first responders found the vehicles crashed in the intersection in an apparent t-bone style crash. The crash involved a utility bucket truck and a four door sedan. Cortland Fire says the driver’s side of the sedan was pinned against a utility pole; the sedan had also broken a fire hydrant, which was partially underneath the sedan.
Those who were out of the vehicles were treated by TLC while the driver of the sedan had to be extricated by firefighters. Cortland Fire says the driver was freed in under ten minutes and was subsequently treated by TLC.
Groton Ave. was closed in the area while first responders were on scene. Cortland Fire says weather-related road conditions contributed to the crash, noting slick surfaces and poor visibility.
Motorists are being reminded to use extra caution when traveling in snowy conditions and to adjust their speed accordingly.
