A North Syracuse man has died after a vehicle crash that occurred on I81 Northbound near mile marker 69.9 in the Town of Tully yesterday, September 6th around 3:40 in the afternoon.
State Police have identified the driver as 49 year old Oleg Stepaniuk of North Syracuse. Troopers say he was operating a 2018 Ram pickup truck pulling a trailer traveling northbound when he then exited the west shoulder of the highway and struck a metal guide rail. The truck then continued traveling north and proceeded to strike an earth embankment before it came to a complete stop.
Stepaniuk was found unconscious and was taken to Upstate University Hospital via Tully Ambulance where he was pronounced deceased. State Police say it appears he may have suffered a medical event prior to the crash. An autopsy is planned.
State Police say the investigation is ongoing.
