One Caught After Stealing Copper; Sheriff Looking for Second

On Thursday, August 11th the Cortland County Sheriff’s Department was called to Suit Kote Crushed Stone on US Route 11 in Cortlandville for a report of two males stealing copper from the facility.



During the call the two suspects were fleeing from the scene on foot through a field. The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office as well as the New York State police ended up locating one of the suspects, 43 year old Joshua J. Morris of Cortlandville, NY.

The other male suspect was not located, nor identified by police yet.

Morris was arrested and charged with grand larceny in the 3rd degree, a felony. He was remanded and sent to Cortland County Jail on no bail due to having two prior arrests this year alone, which are still open.

The theft is still under investigation and the Cortland County Sheriff’s Department is asking if anyone has information regarding the second suspect to call Inv. / Sgt. Timothy Jones at 607-758-5537.

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New York State Police, New York State Forest Rangers and the City of Cortland Police K9 Unit.
