Officials with Guthrie say they’ve gotten several complaints of residents who receive fraudulent phone calls that manage to display the Guthrie name on the Caller ID.
The caller then identifies as a staff member asking for personal information and requesting payment for an outstanding bill – a scam that’s not new but has been particularly active in recent days.
Residents who receive such calls can hang up and call back to verify that the call came from Guthrie.
Calls determined to be fraudulent should be reported to local law enforcement.
Circumstances in which Guthrie may legitimately contact a patient include requesting pre-registration in advance of a procedure that’s already been scheduled or attempting to collect payment on an outstanding account.
