Officer Injured After Suspect Punches Window, Sending Glass Shards into Officer’s Face

Cortland Police responded to a domestic disturbance just after 10pm back on September 5th at 136 Port Watson Street in the City of Cortland. Cortland Police say the disturbance was a loud dispute between two of the residents.

Officers arriving at the address found an ongoing verbal altercation taking place still inside the residence. The two individuals would be identified as 55 year old Zak Lukosavich and an unidentified adult female. Officers attempted multiple times to de-escalate the situation from outside the residence. However, both Lukosavich and the female continued to argue loudly and refused to cooperate with police.

Cortland Police say while one of their officers was observing the dispute through a front window of the dispute, an officer was struck by shards of glass after Lukosavich punched the window in frustration.

The officer sustained minor facial injuries as a result of the broken glass. They were evaluated on scene.

The adult female eventually exited the residence, Cortland Police say, and spoke with officers and a sergeant. She informed police she had felt safe staying inside the residence. Both Lukosavich and the female refused to cooperate with police on the domestic. Cortland Police say due to the absence of further immediate threats, police cleared the scene.

Following the incident though, Cortland Police conducted an investigation on Lukosavich breaking the window and injuring an officer. Charges were filed against him of Reckless Endangerment in the 2nd, and Harassment in the 2nd. Lukosavich was arrested on September 10th for the charges.
