Obituary of William D. Maricle

William D. Maricle, fondly known as Witsie, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his devoted family, including his beloved wife, Sherry Rainbow, daughters, Kellie (Wayne) LaBouf, Heather McCall and Amber (Jeremy) Giamei; and his son, Bronson McCall.

Witsie’s legacy is further carried on by his seven grandchildren; and six great grandsons. Among them, his grandson; Aidan and granddaughter; Synae held a special place in his heart and brought him immense joy.

Witsie’s life was filled with passions that brought him happiness and fulfillment. He was an enthusiastic hunter and fisherman, finding solace and excitement in nature’s embrace. His love for the thrill of the race led him to OTB/St. Charles Hotel, where he cherished playing the horses and spending time with friends.
Witsie was preceded in death by his parents; William Maricle Sr. and Doris West, as well as his sister; Jackie West.

To honor Witsie’s memory, a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday November 8, 2025 at 2 p.m. at the St. Charles Hotel
(83 Central Ave, Cortland, N.Y.) This gathering will allow family and friends to come together and celebrate the life of a man who was deeply loved. Private services will be held at a later date.

Witsie’s love and adventurous spirit will be remembered by all who knew him.
