Vivian Alyce Carroll, 89, passed away on August 16, 2015.
She was born in Cortland, a daughter of Orrin and Alice Heath Babcock.
Vivian grew up in Groton City where she attended a one-room schoolhouse on the corner of the Champlin Road and NYS Route 90; she later attended Groton High. She married Fred Carroll and lived all of her life in the Cortland area. She spent many years as a waitress in several local eateries where she made many friends. Later she worked at and retired from Wilson Sporting Goods. She loved to travel and got to experience many states including Hawaii and even got to go to South Korea.
She is survived by her children, Stephen (Gale) of Tennessee Colony, TX; Virginia (Clifford) Glezen of Lapeer; Shirley (Gerald) Smith of Marathon; Wayne (Jackie) of Groton; and Marvin (Debbie) of Cortland, eight grand children and eleven great-grand children.
In addition to her parents, Vivian was predeceased by her brothers: George, Bradley, and Robert Babcock and her son, Stanley.
Per Vivian’s wishes, there will be no funeral or calling hours. Instead, we will celebrate her life doing what she enjoyed most: eating! Family and friends are invited to join us on September 18th from 5-7p.m. for a dish-to-pass meal at 131 Port Watson St., Cortland (Mini Conference Center). If you can, bring your favorite dish to share. We will provide the beverages and lunchmeat/cheese tray. There is no menu and if we get all deserts, that’s fine. She always said you should eat the desert first. Oh yes, please wear bright colors, she hates black.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Carroll’s memory may be directed to the Cortland SPCA (she loved orange kitty cats) or the American Heart Association.
