Obituary of Vincenza F. Starmer


Vincenza F. Starmer, “Vee” of Cortland, N.Y., passed away, Thursday May 21, 2015 at her home at the age of 84, Born November 16, 1930 in Cortland, Vee was a daughter of Antonio and Attilia Mantella Ferro and was a Cortland resident her entire life.

Vee was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Altar Society as well as the Catholic Daughters of The Americas, Court # 919, Cortland. An active member of the community Vee volunteered her time for the American Red Cross Bloodmobiles, R.S.V.P. and St. Mary’s School, where she enjoyed being with the children and tending to the fruit cart in the lunch room. Vee also directed many youth productions and variety shows at the school as well. Additionally, she officiated youth basketball for the recreation department of the Cortland Youth Bureau. But most of all Vee’s greatest joy was the time she spent with her family.

Vee is survived by four sons, Stephen (Rhonda) Starmer of Thurmont, Maryland; Ronald (Connie) Starmer, Richard Starmer and Michael (Alice) Starmer all of Cortland; a brother, Salvatore (Elsie) Ferro of Cortland, two sisters, Albertina Lorenzo of Cortland and Jennie (Joe) Emm of Chenango Forks; 13 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Vee was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Starmer in 1988.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Zareski serving as celebrant. Prayers of committal will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. in the chapel of Riccardi Funeral Home 69 N. Main Street, Cortland. Contributions in Vee’s memory in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Mary’s Parochial School 61 N. Main Street, Cortland, N.Y. 13045
