Thomas R. Place, Sr., 73, of O’Shea Rd., Homer, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2022, surrounded by his family.
Tom was born January 26, 1949, a son of the late Gerald and Inda Mills Place. He attended Homer Schools and enlisted in the US Marine Corp, serving in Vietnam from 1967 to 1969, where he was honorably discharged as a Lance Corporal.
A lifelong area resident, he owned and operated TP’s Construction and Drywall and had worked at E.F. Hayward Construction in Homer. Throughout his life he enjoyed the outdoors and country life with some of his favorite activities including hunting, fishing, raising chickens, snowmobiling, riding dirt bike with his son and spending time at his camp. He loved his family and friends and would always be the first to give the shirt off his back.
Surviving are his three children, Thomas R. Place, Jr., Bridgette (Brian) Bush and Trisha (Carl) Bush, all of Cortland; his former wife and mother of his children, Patricia Place; a brother, Gerald ‘Skip’ (Debra) Place of Virgil; a sister, Debra (Boyd) Chapman of Homer; six grandchildren, Courtney and Logan Place, Kristin, Lindsey, Jarrod, and Karter Bush; as well as several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 12th from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 US Route 11, Homer.
Graveside services, with Marine Corp honors, will follow at 2 p.m. in Glenwood Cemetery, Homer.
