Sally Augusta (Bliss) O’Shea, 95, Cortland, New York passed away on October 6, 2022, following an extended illness.

She was born on March 23, 1927, in the town of Smithfield, NY, the daughter of the late Fenton and Vera (Ingalls) Bliss.

Sally spent her early years in Peterboro, graduating from Morrisville Eaton High School and Morrisville College. She lived in Cortland until moving to and enjoying the excellent care and friendships at the Elizabeth Brewster House in Homer in 2016. In late 2019, just as Covid was taking hold, she was admitted to Guthrie Cedar Run, where the staff did all possible to comfort her in our world of isolation. After over a year of isolation, family was allowed to visit.

Sally was a nurse for many years, working at Cortland Memorial Hospital after schooling, the Elizabeth Brewster House for many years and as a private duty nurse.

Sally loved to read. She also enjoyed playing cards, baking, bowling, gardening, canning, art, and spending time with her family and friends. One of her favorite activities was taking pictures and keeping a photo record of all those who touched her life.

Sally is survived by her two sons, Daniel (Carrie) of Tully and Richard (Jane) of Homer, sister Drusilla Wemett of Rochester; three grandchildren, Fenton, Erin (Larry) and Adam (Randi); and five great grandchildren, Sam, Grace, Addison, Owen and Otto, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Sally was predeceased by three brothers, Robert Bliss, Eli Bliss, and John “Jack” Bliss; and three sisters, Eulalie St. Don and Vera Louise Romer and Olive Grabow.

The family would like to offer their sincere appreciation to the staff and administration of the Elizabeth Brewster House and the Guthrie Cortland Nursing Facility.

Burial services were held for the family at the Peterboro Cemetery on Monday, October 10, 2022.

Contributions can be made in her memory to the Elizabeth Brewster House, 41 S. Main St., Homer, NY 13077 or to the Hospice Foundation of Cortland, 11 Kennedy Parkway, Cortland, NY 13045.
