Obituary of Roy D. Compton


Roy D. Compton, 84, of Atwood Rd., Moravia, died on Monday, December 13, 2021 following a period of declining health.

Born April 29, 1937 in Candor, he was the son of the late Burton and Pearl Caple Compton.

Roy was a proud veteran of the US Army, serving during the Korean War from 1954 – 1959.

He continued his service to local veterans as a driver for the Cayuga County Veterans Association, transporting local veterans to countless appointments at the local and Syracuse VA Medical Centers.

Roy was a life member of the Sempronius Fire Department, the Moravia Grange and was active in the Cub Scout Pack #61, New Hope.

Surviving are his children, James Compton of Lisle; Rudi (Stacey) Compton of Killawog; Gerhart Compton of Lisle and Denise Compton of Homer. William (Cynthia) Compton of Dresserville; Charles (Linda) Compton of Fabius; Peter (Sally) Compton of Locke; Kevin (Laura) Compton of Jacksonville, NC; Michael (Renee) Compton and Gordon (Dawn) Compton; both of Preble; brother, Carl Compton of Cardiff; a sister, Leona Thomas of Cardiff; many grandchildren and great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Geraldine Compton on April 4, 2021.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, December 17, 2021 at the Donald Barber Funeral Home, 5016 US Route 11, Homer, with Pastor Tim Mowers officiating. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow in Atwater Cemetery, Homer, will follow.

The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
