Rose A. Vecellio, 91, of Cortland passed away on Nov 10, 2021, at the Guthrie Cortland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with her daughters at her side. Born July 12, 1930 in Speedsville, NY, Rose resided for many years in Groton before moving to Cortland. She retired from Empire Soils in Groton and previously worked as a cafeteria aide at Groton High School. She was a self employed seamstress and operated Rose’s Sewing Service while raising her children before attending college to study accounting.
Survivors include two sons: John (Cheryl) Vecellio of Florida and Michael (Mary Liz) Vecellio of Syracuse; three daughters: Susan Hutchings of Cortland, Theresa (Mark) Coon of Homer and Marie (Walter) Blanden of Truxton; two sisters: Theresa Slattery of Ithaca and Sylvia (George) Willis of Florida; 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren with one on the way.
Rose enjoyed crafts, attending craft fairs and spending time with her good friend Wally. Her most precious moments were those spent singing with her children and her siblings, especially singing in the choirs at St. Anthony’s and St. Margaret’s churches and her trips to Italy with her sisters.
Rose was preceded in death by sisters Mary Grand and Ida Baiguini; brother Daniel Maxfield, Sr.; sister- in-law Phyllis Maxfield; brothers-in-law Robert Mullin, Sr., Donald Slattery, and Pat Grande; and son-in-law Richard Hutchings.
