Robert C. Elmer, 71, of Cuyler, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2015 peacefully at home with his loving family.
A lifelong area resident, he was born December 9, 1943, a son of the late Wilbur and Violet Gridley Elmer. Bob graduated Homer High School in 1962 and faithfully served in the US Navy with the Seabees, and was honorably discharged in 1964.
In 1966, Bob began a 33 year career with the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) working out of both the Cortland and Syracuse stations, retiring in 1999 as a Highway Maintenance Supervisor. Following his retirement from the DOT, he worked part-time for both the towns of Cuyler and Lincklaen.
Bob was an amazing father , husband, and friend of many who adored his sense of humor and his love for life. Bob was also an avid and successful hunter. He also was the proud owner of a 1953 Ford Coupe, but his family was his greatest love and accomplishment.
Surviving is his loving wife of more than 40 years, Marion E. Waters Elmer; son, Kevin (Francye) Elmer of Georgetown; daughter, Bobbie (Charlie) Wilbur of Homer; daughter, Valerie (Larry) Park of Berkshire; and a son, Marc (Roxy) Brigham of Remsen. Also surviving are Julie Lundeen and Caren (Jamie) Arnold; two sisters, Joan (Raymond) Hoy of Homer; Leverna (Roger) Tinker of Homer; his brother, Richard Elmer of Homer and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 25, 2015 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 North Main St., Homer.
Graveside services, with Military Honors, will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2015 in Cuyler Cemetery, with Pastor H. Nelson Stafford officiating.
