Mr, Richard W. Burnham, 82, “Dick” of Cortland passed away on Sept 8, 2023 after a brief illness. Born May 2, 1941 in Cortland, Richard was a son of Donald and Laura Reagan Burnham.
A communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Dick was formerly employed by Smith Corona and went on to retire from Borg-Warner. He was an avid golfer and bridge player and enjoyed drives in the Countryside. Dick also enjoyed playing on several pool/billiard leagues over the years.
He is survived by two daughters; Maria (Dean) O’Gorman of Cortland and Melanie Merchant of Virgil, four grandchildren; Dominic and Julia Spaziani and Hannah and Emily Merchant., three sisters; Mercele (Keith) Jackson of Rochester, Kathleen Clute of Naples, N.Y. and Mary (Chris) Harrold of Troy, N.Y., two brothers; Robert (Rose) Burnham of Ohio and Michael Burnham of Georgia and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents; Richard was preceded in death by a brother; James Burnham.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church. The Christian Rite of Committal and Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
The family will be present to receive friends on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. in the Chapel of Riccardi Funeral Home, Cortland, N.Y.
