Mr. Richard G. Cifonelli, 85, passed away on Tuesday December 21, 2021 at his home. Born Feb 17, 1936 the son of Angelo and Margaret Piedigrossi Cifonelli, Dick lived many years in the Cortland area before relocating to Allentown, Penn. He was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, Cortland and St. Thomas More in Allentown.
Dick was a 3 letter athlete at Cortland High School but, as he liked to remind his family, it would have been 4, if he had not been hurt his senior year. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for many years as was formerly employed locally with Compagni Construction.
He is survived by two sons; Michael of Cortland and Steven (Maria) of Northridge, Calif; a sister; Carol (Don) Heifferon of Rochester, he is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. in addition to his parents; Dick was preceded in death by his wife; Shirley in 2002 and his siblings; Josephine Biviano, Daniel, Paul and Sam Cifonelli.
A Memorial service and burial will be planned and announced at a later date for the summer of 2022. Contributions in Dick’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Riccardi Funeral Home, Cortland, N.Y. www.riccardifuneralhome.com
