Richard A. Ellis, Sr., of Homer, passed away on Tuesday, May 26 2015.
He was born in Endicott, NY on July 1, 1942 a son of the late B. George and Doris Corwin Ellis. Dick grew up in Endicott and lived in Cortland.
A most loving and kind husband, father and grandfather and best friend to his wife of 56 years, Bonnie Shoals Ellis; brothers, Bob (Phyllis) Ellis and Jimmy (Pattie) Ellis, both of Florida; his children, Richard A. Ellis, Jr.; Joseph L. Ellis; Patty Ellis and Jeffrey (Vicky) Ellis; grandchildren, Richard A. Ellis, III; Jill Ellis; Johnna Ellis; Jo-Lyn Ellis Hutchings; Patrick Ellis and Christopher Willis; and his great grandchildren, Lacey, Peyton and Julianna as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dick was predeceased by a brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie (Roberta) Ellis; two sisters, Bonnie Clifton and Johna Hornbuckle.
Dick loved playing cards, mowing his lawn and fishing. He was famous in his family for his chicken barbecues with his own homemade barbecue sauce.
He had been a mason and a former member of the Bricklayers Union and had worked for his family business in Florida as a brick and block layer. He also worked many jobs as a young man and eventually owned his own trucking business that he leased to Keen Transport, hauling heavy equipment.
He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no calling hours. Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
