Peter S. Moon was born in Galesburg, Illinois on April 19, 1954 to Sam Moon and Doris Harvey Moon. He graduated from Galesburg Sr. High School in 1972, attended St. Olaf College and finished an MS in biology at Knox College in 1974. He lived for a few years in Missoula, Montana where he worked briefly for the forest service and then went on to get a degree in landscape architecture at the University of Idaho.
Pete was a free spirit, smart, creative, independent, and intuitive who had a kind heart and who lived life on his own terms right to the end. At a young age he had a big paper route which helped shape his work ethic and formed some of his opinions about the public. He loved nature and being outdoors, exploring, fishing, finding lizards, and filling up his closet with lightening bugs. Later in life he enjoyed observing the sky change and the fascinating variety of moths outside his apartment on Cold Brook Road. He spent most of his life in Denver, Co where he worked as a graphic designer for Paul Davis Designs and then spent many years outdoors working as a landscaper with his favorite dog, Raleigh, by his side, and later for a landscaping irrigation company. He moved to Homer twelve years ago when his father was diagnosed with cancer. Pete worked at Greek Peak for the next ten years, making snow and helping build the mountain coaster among many things. He had a mind that loved the challenge of problem solving from figuring out how to build a snow making gun out of old parts to repairing and rebuilding his 1977 Chevy truck for over 35 years until it finally gave out just months before he died. He had a unique sense of humor and an infectious laugh. He inherited his love of reading and language from his father and his creative spirit from his mother. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Pete was predeceased by both his parents and survived by his sister, Vicky Moon Delaney of Cortland. There will be no service or calling hours, and a celebration of life for family and friends will be held at a later date. Condolences can be left at www.riccardifuneralhome.com
