Norbert W. Haley, formerly of Cortland, passed away on February 22, 2019 at the age of 88. Norb was the retired Director of College Relations and Development at SUNY Cortland.
Norb was born in 1930 in Lockport, NY the son of the late Daniel and Rosella Haley. He came to Cortland in 1965 to begin a 30-year association with the College. Previously Norb was Director of Public Relations for 7 years at Manhattan College and Director of Public Information for 3 years at Alfred University.
After retirement, Norb served ten years as a volunteer with St. Mary’s School in Cortland. He coordinated publicity and publications programs for the School and served on the Long Range Planning Committee.
Norb was a 1947 graduate of Lockport High School and a 1951 graduate of Canisius College. He then joined the US Air Force where he was stationed at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kansas from 1952 to 1955.
Norb is predeceased by his wife Casey (Stevenson) Haley (2011), also of Lockport NY, and his oldest daughter Catherine M, Niese (1979). He is survived by his son Timothy (Mary Ann) Haley of Port St Lucie Florida, daughter Patricia A. Stuart (Timothy) of Clifton Park NY, and 5 grand children Michael (Lindsey), Daniel (Kelly) and Robert (Abigail) Haley, Kaitlyn and Michael Ross, and great grandson Elijah Haley.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St Mary’s School, 61 N. Main St., Cortland, NY 13045. Information regarding funeral mass services to be held in April will be forthcoming and will be announced by Riccardi Funeral Home, Cortland, N.Y.
