Obituary of Mrs. Rochelle C. Ingraham

Obits

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Rochelle C. Ingraham on May 28, 2020. She left us peacefully with her family by her side. Rochelle (Shelley) was our loving mother, grandmother, and a good friend to all whose lives she touched.

Rochelle was born on October 20, 1935, in Burlington, Vermont, to Herschel and Florence Provost Cross. Rochelle and her family moved to Menands, New York, in 1952 when she met the love of her life William J. (Bill) Ingraham, Jr. They married in Watervliet in 1956 and lived the first few years of their marriage in Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, where Bill was stationed with the Navy.

After Bill’s discharge in 1958, they made Cortland their home, where Herschel had settled to open a print shop, Cortland Press. Rochelle and Bill eventually took over ownership of Cortland Press and Rochelle was President until her retirement in 2005. Even after retiring, Rochelle continued to help out wherever she could, as she never lost her love for the printing industry.

Rochelle was very active in the Cortland community and served on several boards and committees, including St. Mary’s Parent Guild, Zonta, and Grace and Holy Spirit Church vestry. She also volunteered her time to many worthwhile organizations and was always quick to lend a helping hand where needed.

Rochelle’s faith was incredibly important to her and she was always able to find solace in trying times through her personal relationship with God and her participation with her faith community, Grace and Holy Spirit Church.

Rochelle derived the most pleasure in life through her roles as wife and mother. Time spent as a family was important to Rochelle and she always seemed happiest when her family gathered around her dining room table. In later years, time spent with her children and grandchildren was priceless to her. Nothing delighted her more than everyone sharing a meal while swapping childhood stories. Those moments never failed to end with the entire family laughing until they cried. The joy that she gave and received from her family is immeasurable and will never be forgotten.

Rochelle is survived by her children Eileen Ingraham of Cortland; Jennifer (Daniel) Heath of Austin, Texas; Bill (Doreen) Ingraham of Raleigh, North Carolina; and Betsy (Paul) Allen of Cortland; her grandchildren Benjamin Ingraham, Trevor (Zhanna) Atherton, Abigail (Paul) Avery, Kathryn Atherton, and Blake Allen; her sister-in-law Mary Ingraham; and many beloved nieces and cousins. She loved her family unconditionally and instilled in her children and grandchildren strong values that have served them well.

Rochelle was predeceased by her brother, Herschel Cross, Jr., her parents, and her husband, Bill, 1999.

Funeral services will be held at a later date. A private burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery will be held for her immediate family. Arrangements are being made by Riccardi Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Grace and Holy Spirit Discretionary Fund, 13 Church Street, Cortland.

Rochelle will be dearly missed.
