Mrs. Elvira A. Padavona, 97, of Cortland, passed away, Tuesday October 6, 2015 at Cortland Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. Born June 21, 1918 in Allison, Pennsylvania, Elvira was the daughter of Ralph and Catherine Cackowski Capaldo and was a Cortland resident since 1937.
Elvira retired from ACME Market prior to that she was employed by Cortland Corset Co., and she also owned and operated the Central Ave. Market. Elvira enjoyed reading and working around her home, but most of all she was her happiest being with her loving family. She was communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church and a member of their Altar Society. Additionally, she was a volunteer with the Hospital Aid Society.
She is survived by her daughter, Elaine (Peter) Morenus of Cortland, two sisters, Eva Fabrizio of Cortland and Stella Crisara of Connecticut; three grandsons, Peter (Jennifer) Morenus, Jr. of Willimantic, Connecticut, and Matthew and Andrew Morenus both of Cortland; four great-grandchildren, Ceasar, Lucius, Peter III and Grace., and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony’s Church with Rev. Joseph Zareski serving as celebrant. The Christian Rite of committal and burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Those wishing to honor Elvira’s memory in the form of a contribution are asked to consider St. Anthony’s Church or a charity of one’s choice.
