Obituary of Michael Stroh

Michael George Stroh, 79, of Cortland, NY passed away on Thursday August 20, 2026. He was born on November 5, 1946 the son of the late Wilbert and Anne Stroh.

Michael was a loving son, father, husband, grandfather, brother, and friend. Born in Buffalo, NY and raised in Cortland, Michael graduated from Cortland Highschool. He proudly served in the United States Army prior to earning his accounting degree from Monroe Community College. He was an avid golfer, lifelong Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Sabers & Detroit Tigers fan. He enjoyed watching his daughter & granddaughter Gwenna play lacrosse, a sport that he loved. Michael was raised around horses and spent many years at Vernon Downs with his parent’s race horse, Scotch Lobell.

Michael is survived by his wife Katherine Stroh, his daughter Kate (Dennis) Grinstead, his step-son Chad (Alison) Mierzwa, and his grandchildren Gwenna, Bailey, Ian, Camden & Lexton. He also leaves behind many close friends whom he loved dearly.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sister Mary Calkins.

As a tribute to his grandson Bailey, who is named after Michael and is currently in medical school to become a dentist, Michael will carry on the gift of life and scientific study by being donated to SUNY Upstate Medical School’s Anatomical Gift Program.
