Martha A. Gibbons, 46, formerly of Cortland passed away Sunday, August 30, 2015 in Port Charlotte, Florida. Born, March 4, 1969 in Cortland, Martha was a daughter of Hazel Hamill Gibbons and John E. Gibbons.
Martha was a graduate of St. Mary’s Parochial School, and was also a graduate of Cortland High School. She then went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree from S.U.N.Y. Plattsburgh and her Masters in education from S.U.N.Y. Cortland. Martha possessed a beautiful smile and a loving and caring heart. She was a compassionate person and a respected and devoted educator who made a tremendous impact on those whose lives she touched.
Survivors include, her mother Hazel Gibbons of Cortland, a daughter. Kara Collins of Oswego, four brothers; John Daniel (Joan) Gibbons of Chittenango,
Michael A. Gibbons of Cortland, Joseph B. (Dee Dee) Gibbons of Trinity, Florida and Anthony E. (Carrie) Gibbons of St. Petersburg, Florida., three sisters; Mary K. (Steven) Canale of Oswego, Michele A. (Christopher) Maher of Islip, N.Y., Margaret J. Gibbons of Cortland., and a sister in law; Anne Gibbons of Gainesville, Florida and several loving nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews as well as many dear and loving friends. Martha was preceded in death by her father, John E. Gibbons in 2009 and by a brother, Patrick G. Gibbons in 2007. A Celebration of her life was held Wednesday September 9, 2015 in Port
Charlotte, Florida with her many loving family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Cortland with Rev. Joseph Zareski serving as celebrant. Prayers of committal will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Cortland, N.Y. The family will be present to receive friends on Monday from 4-7 p.m. in the Chapel of Riccardi Funeral Home 69 N.
