Obituary of Marie A. Lewis

Marie A. ‘Maudie’ Lewis, of Route 215, Cortland, passed away on January 5, 2022 while under the care of Hospice and her loving family.

A lifelong area resident, Maudie was raised in Summerhill and was a graduate of Groton High School.

She retired in 2007 as a 911 dispatcher after a 30-year career with the Cortland County Sheriff’s Department. The colleagues and friends Marie made through the years at the Sheriff’s department are now lifelong friends.

Marie was an active member of the New Apostolic Church. She enjoyed gardening, decorating her home and especially loved spoiling her grandchildren.

Surviving is her best friend and loving husband of 32 years, Roy E. Lewis; her children, Jeffery (Lisa) Weaver of Moravia; Garrett (Amy) Weaver of Johnson City and Angel (Patrick) Weaver of Maine; a brother, Al (Sheila) Kemp; her sister, Joyce Gruber; eight grandchildren, Chelsea (Jon) Golley; Joshua (Jenn) Weaver; Emmillie (Tom) Partin; Amara (Jon) Lewis; Bella Weaver Phelps; Nadyleen Weaver Phelps; Sage Inglis and Autumn Weaver Phelps; six great grandchildren, Lia; Pyper; Brynn; Ronin; Orion and Ophiuchus. Also surviving is the father of her children, Ernest Weaver, many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and her close friends, Lee and Sandy Price, Diane Dubois Higgins, Gene and Kathy Barnes and Budd Rigg.

Maudie’s family would like to thank Rachel, Demaris and Rebecca from Hospice; Dr’s. Chin, Panebianco and Lowry and Mindy Dunn for the wonderful care they provided.

In addition to her parents, Grover and Barbara Ward Stoyell, she was predeceased by a brother, Herb Kemp and a daughter-in-law, Tina Weaver.

Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 US Route 11, Homer. The service will be livestreamed at www.facebook.com/donaldlbarberfuneralhome

The family will receive friends and family at the funeral home on Monday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Lewis’ memory can be directed to the American Cancer Society or Toys For Tots, PO Box 5113, Cortland, NY 13045.
