Ms. Margaret J. Gibbons, 47, of Cortland, passed away Wednesday September 16, 2015 at Cortland Regional Medical Center. Born October 6, 1967 in Cortland, Margaret was the daughter of Hazel Hamill Gibbons and John E. Gibbons.
Margaret was a graduate of St. Mary’s Parochial School, Cortland High School and Tompkins-Cortland Community College. She was formerly employed as a counselor at Tully Hill Treatment Center and was currently a purchasing agent with Aldi, Inc. in Tully, N.Y. Margaret was a beautiful and loving person who was greatly loved and admired by many for her bravery and courage in her battle with cancer. She loved animals, especially her beloved dog, Gidget and was a fan of S.U. Basketball and the fighting Irish of Notre Dame. She volunteered for many years with the St. Mary’s School Bazaar and helped organizeThe Gibby Open in loving memory of her father, John, to benefit St. Mary’s School.
Survivors include, her mother, Hazel Gibbons of Cortland., a son, Sean P. Gibbons, of Cortland., four brothers; John Daniel (Joan) Gibbons of. Chittenango, Michael A. Gibbons of Cortland, Joseph B. (Dee Dee) Gibbons of Trinity, Florida and Anthony E. (Carrie) Gibbons of St. Petersburg, Florida., and two sisters; Mary K. (Steven) Canale of Oswego and Michele A. (Christopher) Maher of Islip, N.Y., and a sister in law; Anne Gibbons of Gainesville, Florida and several loving nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews., and her dearest friends, Mark and Kim Reitano.
Margaret was preceded in death by her father, John E. Gibbons in 2009, by her brother, Patrick G. Gibbons in 2007 and by her sister, Martha A. Gibbons on August 30, 2015.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Zareski serving as celebrant. Prayers of committal will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
A Celebration of Margaret’s life will follow the burial at Citizen’s Park 3537 Rte. 281 in the Town of Cortlandville.
