Larry was a friendly, kind, and positive man of faith. Larry spent his early years at Newark State School for those with developmental disabilities. At age 45 Larry was placed in a group home in Ithaca through Broome Developmental Services. Larry soon flourished with the opportunities afforded to him living in the community. Larry had a strong work ethic and spent many years as a reliable and energetic worker at Challenge Industries. At 72 Larry joined the Grover-Murray IRA residence where he continued his active life.
Family and friends have always been important to Larry and he was loyal and kind to all who knew him. He was a regular participant in activities at the Ithaca Youth Bureau and at his church. He loved sports, going to dances, concerts and playing his Elvis records.
Larry was a loyal friend who always had a smile and positive energy to share with those who knew him. Larry’s story is one of resilience and a triumph over institutionalization. He will be missed.
