Obituary of Kathleen M. Smith

Kathleen M. Smith, 80, of Cortland passed away Feb 12, 2026 at Crouse Hospital after a long illness. Born June 1, 1945 in Cortland, Kathy was the daughter of Shirley Hubert and Margaret Sherman Baker, who preceded her in death.

Kathy was employed for many years as a customer service representative at Cortland Savings Bank and then went on to retire from CFCU.

She is survived by her husband; Robert M. Smith at home; her daughter; Denise (Patrick) Steger of Auburn and three sons; Robert L. Smith of S. Carolina; Michael S. (Brenda) Smith of Massachusetts and Douglas P. Smith of W. Virginia; brother in laws; Eugene (Cathy) Smith and Richard Modica, 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Kathy was preceded in death by a daughter; Wendy L. Smith in 1980, a brother; Alan Baker, a sister; Alice Modica and a granddaughter Brandy Smith.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Riccardi Funeral Home, The Christian Rite of Committal and Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
