Juanita I. Knapp, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on April 16, 2023 at the Cortland Regional Nursing Facility, at the age of 100.
A lifelong area resident and former resident of the Friendship House, Juanita was born March 6, 1923, a daughter of the late Reed and Maude Ellis Johnson. She retired in 1976, after more than 25 years of employment, as section merchandiser for the W.T. Grant Co., Cortland. Juanita was the last of the “Grant Girls”.
Juanita was a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Cortland City Unit 489; the Cortland Senior Center and Club, King’s Daughters and volunteered many years in many ways for RSVP.
Surviving is her loving daughter, Linda L. Cooper of Cortland; daughter-in-law, Karen Knapp; granddaughter, Monica Williams; two great grandsons, Roger and Donovan Williams and her nieces, Kathy (William) Irving; Susan (Dean) Teeter and Shirley (Lee) Williamson.
Juanita married Howard G. Knapp in November 1944, and after 64 wonderful years of marriage was predeceased by him in 2008. She is also predeceased by her son, Donald Knapp in 2006; her granddaughter, Kelly Knapp, sister Irene Rutan, brother Marvin Johnson and son-in-law Donald Cooper.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 US Route 11, Homer. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment in Glenwood Cemetery, Homer, will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Knapp’s name may be directed to Cortland County SPCA, 879 McLean Rd., Cortland, NY 13045.
