Obituary of Juanita Anne McEvoy

September 8, 1936 — December 22, 2023
Marathon, NY
It is with the heaviest of hearts that the family of Juanita Anne McEvoy announces her passing on Friday, December 22nd at the age of 87. After a sudden and brief illness, Anne passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. She is survived by her children Syd (Patti), David (Laurie), Don, and Mary (Jody) and her younger brother, Bob Verfuss (Carol). Anne was predeceased by her siblings Irma Brown, William (Bill) Verfuss, Verna Verfuss, Francis Verfuss, and Stephen Verfuss.

Anyone who knew Anne is well aware of how much she loved and adored her grandchildren Amber (Eric), Matthew, Devon (Kelsie), Meghan (Adam), Logan (Leo), Hannah (Austin), Riley, and Gillian. Above all else was the love she had for her great-granddaughters: Teagan, Hadlee, Maeve, Harper, Zoey, and Addison (with one more on the way). Anne’s love, pride, and dedication to family was as strong as any woman’s ever could be.

Anne worked in the insurance industry for over fifty years, most of which were at the Tri-Town Agency in Whitney Point, NY. Anne had a particular and unmatched fondness for all her clients, but especially her school districts and fire departments. She prided herself on her continued commitment to her company and clients, and was still working up until the day that the Lord decided she no longer could.

Anne was born in Marathon in the home of her parents, Agnes and Clarence Verfuss on September 8th, 1936, and lived in Marathon her whole life. Her love of her community led to a life that was thoroughly lived in service to others. This love included involvement with several organizations, including the Marathon Maple Festival Committee, Marathon Booster Club, Marathon Little League, and Marathon American Legion, just to name a few. Anne was also an active and devoted member of St. Stephen’s Catholic church of Marathon. Hundreds of young people loved and knew Anne as “Grandma Anne,” especially those who admired her and looked up to her through interactions she had with Cortland County 4-H. May all those who met “Grandma Anne” know how lucky they were to be touched by such a selfless angel on Earth.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MAVAC at PO Box 132, Marathon, NY 13803. Services will include a funeral mass on Saturday, December 30th, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. Stephen’s Church of Marathon, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Marathon Civic Center at 12:30 pm.
