Obituary of Joseph J. Masterpaul


Joseph J. Masterpaul, 83, of Homer passed away on Oct 9, 2022 at Guthrie Cortland Residential Care Facility. Born April 1, 1939 in Cortland, Joe was the son of James V. and Lena Corso Masterpaul.

A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Joe attended St. Mary’s Parochial School and was a 1957 Graduate of Cortland High School. He went on to graduate from Morrisville Ag & Tech College. He was employed by the Cortland County Highway Dept. Peerless Racing Team, ETL of Cortland, Country Motors, JM Murray Center, Brockway Motors and the Cortland Board of Education Auto Mechanics Instructor in the Adult Education Program. He was a past President of the Cortland County Microd Club and was a big fan of any and all Auto Racing, NASCAR, Dirt Track or the Road Racing Series. Joe was his children and grandchildren’s loudest and proudest fan, whether it was at the microd track, sporting events, concert or a play, whatever the event he was there to cheer them on.

Survivors include; his wife of 62 years, Carol Carter Masterpaul, and their four children; Corena (Don) Morse, Monica (Rick) Felici, Rebecca (Robert) Stockwin and Vincent (Amanda) Masterpaul., grandchildren; Cassondra, Britt (Emily), Clint and Garret Morse; Rosa (Donald) Kinkaid, Julia Felici, Matthew, Nathan, Gretta and Stella Stockwin, Luke and Ellie Masterpaul; great grandchildren; Drake and Ainsley Kinkaid, and Tucker Morse., three brother in laws; Doug, Darrel and Craig Carter as well as several nieces and nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents; Joe was preceded in death by his sister; Sr. Victoria Masterpaul, his mother and father in law; Douglas and Sylvia Carter and nephews; Darryl and Steven Carter. The family would like to thank the staff of Guthrie Cortland Residential Care Facility for the wonderful care they gave to Joe.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday Oct 22, 2022 at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church. Prayers of committal will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105 or a charity of one’s choice.
