Obituary of Joseph A. Prezioso


Mr. Joseph A. Prezioso, 97, of Cortland, passed away on December 15, 2023 at University Hospital, Syracuse, N.Y. after brief illness. Born March 15, 1926 in Cortland, Joe was the son of Antonio and Laura Minno Prezioso.

A communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Joe faithfully served his country in the United States Army serving with the 83rd Armored Reconnaissance Battalion in General Patton’s Army. Joe was stationed in Cologne, Dresden, and Heidelberg and on VE-day he was serving in Studgarten.

Joe retired after serving the City of Cortland for 30 years as a paid firefighter, he was also employed for 35 years with Meldrim’s Paint Store and served the city again for 10 years as a Fire Commissioner.

Survivors include; his son; Anthony (Susan) Prezioso of Fairport; two daughters; Laura Prezioso of Freeville and Mary Jo (Michael) Roberts of Myrtle Beach, S. Carolina; a sister; Laura (Barney) Lough of Long Island and a brother in law; Alex (Donna) Fumarola of Cortland; 3 grandsons; Mathew, Christopher and Mark Prezioso.

Joe was recently preceded in death by his wife; Mary Prezioso on Dec 7, 2023.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church. The Christian Rite of Burial and Committal, in St. Mary’s Cemetery, will be at the convenience of family. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. in the Chapel of Riccardi Funeral Home.
