John L. VanPatten, 57, of Otisco Valley Road, Preble, passed away while under the care of Hospice and his loving family on Wednesday, September 9, 2015.
He was born May 7, 1958, a son of the late Leland and Marcella Denison Van Patten.
John was employed at the Homer Town Highway Department for several years retiring in January due to his health.
He also owned and operated High Life-Acres Farm. He enjoyed breeding, developing and showing Holsteins and Jersey cattle.
John held memberships in numerous organizations, including the Holstein Association of America, the American Jersey Association, the River Valley 4H and F.F.A.
He was a SU, N.Y. Yankees and NASCAR fan. John loved vacationing in Mexico, family trips to Virginia Beach and Florida.
His greatest accomplishment and joy was his family, he cherished the time he had with them and always put the needs of others before his own.
Surviving is his wife of 34 years, Vicki Wheelock VanPatten; two sons, Jason (Jessica) VanPatten of Cortland and Jeffrey VanPatten of Preble; two loving grandchildren, Christian and Madeline VanPatten; two sisters, Susan (Wes) Swayze and Donna (Burdette) Swayze, both of Preble as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Sharon Brohard in 2011.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 14, 2015 at the Preble Congregational Church, 1953 Preble Rd., Preble, NY.
Calling hours will be held from 4 – 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 N. Main St., Homer.
