John F. Grady, 66, of Cortland passed away on June 16, 2023 at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center. Born Jan 24, 1957 in Cortland. John was the son of John and Pauline Grady.
John was employed at TOPS Grocery Store for many years and then by the J.M. Murray Center. He was a resident of the Madison Cortland ARC home on Westmore Lane and a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Despite constant health struggles, his love and appreciation for family never wavered.
John was so fortunate to have numerous care givers over the years. Their patience, understanding, and compassionate care was appreciated not just by John, but by his family as well. John enjoyed the simple things in life; a good cup of coffee, sweets, and a Sunday ride.
John is survived by a brother Thomas (Rose) Grady of Norwich and sister Margaret Hornbrook of Ithaca. Nephews Thomas Jr. “TJ” (Susan) Grady of Wilmington, N. Carolina and Daniel Grady (Laura) of Norwich, niece Meredith Murolo (Michael) of Long Island and nephew Patrick (Natalie) Hornbrook of Ithaca. He also is survived by great nieces and nephews Ava and Olivia Granquist, Miles and Violet Grady, Grace, Charlotte and Mark Murolo, and Quinn and Avery Hornbrook. John also has extended family in Scotland. John was predeceased by his sister, Patricia and brother in law John Hornbrook.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church. The Christian Rite of committal will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. John will be laid to rest with his parents. There are no calling hours. Contributions in John’s memory may be made to St. Mary’s Church, 59 N. Main St. Cortland, N.Y.
