John C. Palm, 83, of Cortland passed away at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center with his loving family by his side. He was born on October 9, 1938, in Stamford, CT, a son of the late Carl and Mary Louise (Marsh) Palm.
John was very active in the Cortland County 4-H. After receiving an Associate Degree at Cornell, he started his career as a printer’s apprentice at the Cortland Democrat, then on to the Cortland Standard. After thirty-five years John retired from the Syracuse Post Standard Newspaper where he was fortunate to be able to follow the trade from hot type to todays near total computer generated newspaper. His passions in life centered around his family exploring, computer technology, photo shopping, scuba diving, playing volleyball, and singing in St. Mary’s Choir.
John is survived by his wife, Florence (Frost), two sons, Jeffrey (Rebecca), of Cortland, Steven (Bonnie) of New Oxford, PA and a daughter, Linda (David) Snyder, Joplin, MO, four grandchildren, Eric and Keith of Cortland, and Christopher, PA, and Stephanie (Wes) Reichart, Baltimore, MD, a sister, Barbara Hall, Port Orange, FL and two nephews in FL. John is predeceased by a brother Carl E. Palm Jr.
Calling hours will be 9:30 – 10:30 AM Saturday at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Church.
