Joanne T. Taylor, 79, of Cortland passed away at her home on Friday May 1, 2015 after a lengthy illness. Born June 30, 1935 in Buffalo, Joanne was a daughter of Frederick and Agnes Burke Evert and was a Cortland resident for 52 years.
Joanne was a 1954 graduate of Mount Marcy Academy in Buffalo, a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Cortland and a member of the Catholic Daughter’s of The Americas Court #919, Cortland. She also was a teacher in the CDC Program at St. Mary’s Parochial School for many years.
Survivors include, her three daughters, Mary Elizabeth (John) Caffrey of Westford, Mass., Barbara Ann Green (Myles) of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Catherine Ann (Martin) Ackley of Solon., two sons, James Michael (Merrilou) Taylor of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and John Joseph (Patricia) Taylor of Buffalo, a sister, Rosemary Womeldorf of Buffalo and two brothers, Frederick (Sharon) “Evert of Florida and Robert (Deb) Evert of Maryland, 14 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald J. “Jerry” Taylor in 2000.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Zareski serving as celebrant. Prayers of committal will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends on Monday from 4-7 p.m. in the chapel of Riccardi Funeral Home 69 N. Main St. Cortland.
